He called for an end to Sudan's "bleeding" and the "concerns" of Palestine

Ahmed Aboul Gheit: We hope that the Jeddah summit will be a sign to start activating Arab action that corrects the mistakes of the past

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit welcomed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad at the summit and Syria's return to the Arab League, saying that "there is an opportunity that should not be missed to address the crisis politically," and called for an end to Sudan's "bleeding" and the "concerns" of Palestine.

In a speech during the 32nd Arab summit meeting, Aboul Gheit said that "the international scene is going through the most dangerous periods in the contemporary world, and Arab interests must be adhered to to face the pressures of international polarization."

He welcomed Assad's presence, "after Syria returned to its seat in the League," expressing his hope that "the Arabs will contribute to resolving the Syrian crisis, as there is an opportunity that should not be missed to address the crisis and a political solution is the only way to settle it."

Aboul Gheit pointed out that "a new sadness was added to the sorrows of the Arab nation in Sudan, where civilians pay a huge price for armed confrontation," calling for "the Jeddah summit to be an opportunity to activate an Arab solution that stops the bloodshed in Sudan, and to resolve the crises witnessed by Arab countries."

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States singled out the Palestinian people for a salute of steadfastness.

He said: "Dear Palestine remains a concern that its people do not carry alone, I salute the steadfastness of the Palestinians."

In the face of this, Aboul Gheit called for "a firm response by the international community to Israel's provocative practices against the Palestinian people."

He pointed out that "the reckless Israeli practices have led to a significant escalation of violence in the occupied territories," stressing "the need to confront the actions of the occupation government, which persists in extremism and hatred."
