Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the subject of Russia's alleged nuclear "threat" announced at the Group of Seven summit in Hiroshima, Japan, is ridiculous.

Zakharova was quoted by the Novosti news agency as saying that this topic of "alleged Russian nuclear threat" announced at the Group of Seven summit in Hiroshima is a startling combination of the unlimited cynicism of Americans and the very sad absurdity of the decision of the Japanese organizers.

Zakharova pointed out that the United States is the only country in the world that has tested nuclear weapons on people living in the same city, and stressed that there is archival evidence that the United States planned nuclear strikes on other cities in Japan after the Hiroshima and Nagasaki strikes.

Japan assumes the presidency of the Group of Seven in 2023, and the Group of Seven leaders' summit will be held in Hiroshima from May 19 to 21.
