After an absence of 12 years

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad arrives in Jeddah to participate in Arab summit

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad arrived today in Jeddah to participate in the 32nd Arab Summit hosted by Saudi Arabia tomorrow.

Assad is attending the Arab summit for the first time in 12 years after his country's membership in the Arab League was frozen in 2011 over the outbreak of the Syrian crisis.

The Syrian presidency announced that President Bashar al-Assad is heading on Thursday to Jeddah to participate in the Arab summit.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi was the first to arrive in Jeddah to participate in the 32nd Arab summit, and it is expected that the leaders of Arab countries will continue to flock successively to Jeddah, which will witness side meetings that bring together a number of leaders and leaders of Arab countries on the sidelines of the Arab summit.

It is worth noting that the summit, hosted by Saudi Arabia, comes amid exceptional circumstances in the region and the world, through which the League of Arab States and Arab leaders are working to face common challenges and enhance regional security and stability.

The city of Jeddah will witness, this evening and tomorrow, Friday, side meetings on the sidelines of the Arab summit that bring together a number of leaders and leaders of Arab countries, as the Kingdom's hosting of the Arab summit comes as an extension of its leadership role at the regional and international levels, enhancing communication with the leaders of Arab countries and continuous discussion and coordination of positions on files and issues of common interest.
