The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Dr. Faisal Mekdad, stressed that the relations between Syria and Lebanon are close, and that coordination between them continues in various fields of interest to the two countries.

Mekdad said in a press statement after meeting his Lebanese counterpart Abdullah Bou Habib in Jeddah today on the sidelines of the preparations for the Arab summit: The meeting was cordial and expressed the close relations between the two countries, and we touched on the issue of refugees in Lebanon, and we dealt with coordination between the delegations of Syria and Lebanon in areas of interest to our two countries and the atmosphere is good, pointing out at the same time that the preparations for the summit are positive and there are no problematic topics.

Mekdad added: We stressed that Syrian refugees must return to their homeland and this return needs possibilities, but whether Western countries encourage them to return or obstruct it, Syria welcomes all its people, pointing out that asylum is a burden, but Syria wants all its refugee children to return to their homeland to be this burden on the homeland and not on others.
