The Syrian Ambassador to Russia, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, stressed that the International Economic Forum of Russia and the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (Russia and the Islamic world.. Kazan Forum) is a great opportunity to unite and resist Western policy.
Jaafari said in a statement to Sputnik on the sidelines of the forum: "The Kazan Forum is an important window for Russia and the Islamic world, where the parties can strengthen cooperation on the basis of common goals and interests."
"As for sanctions against Russia, it would be wrong to call such measures sanctions because from the point of view of international law they are harsh unilateral economic measures that are illegal," Jaafari said.
Jaafari continued: "All the actions carried out by Europe, the United States and the West in general are of a political nature, and although they are economic, they contain political motives, and the West's goal is to pressure Russian policy to achieve concessions that serve Western interests only, and this is a well-known fact and this happened with Syria."
Jaafari stressed that this forum is a great opportunity to unite and oppose Western policy as well as provide a new form of interaction as there is no place for such Western sanctions.
Jaafari pointed out that Syria's participation in the forum is a form of cooperation and solidarity with Russia, given that the two countries suffer from the same Western measures.
