The diversity and richness of the Syrian civilization and the unity and harmony of its social fabric were embodied in a heritage event organized by the Department of Ecumenical Relations and Development of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East today, in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, on the occasion of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development in the hall of St. George Church in Sweida.

The event included the display of paintings from the shadow imagination theater that reflected the heritage of the various governorates, and the opening of a heritage exhibition that includes various works of ancient Syrian dress, popular food, coffee and food utensils, ancient means of lighting, straw crafts, copper utensils, wooden artifacts, archaeological figures, embroideries, old radios and telephones, and others.

The Patriarchal Commissioner of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Bosra, Hauran and Jabal al-Arab, Archbishop Youhanna Batsh, pointed out in a statement to reporters the diversity and richness of the works presented, noting the various programs implemented by the department in various governorates.

Raghida Al-Ashhab, director of the Sweida region of the Department of Ecumenical Relations and Development, told SANA that the event came with the aim of showing the importance of Syrian civilization and cultural diversity, introducing the heritage of the governorates and emphasizing love among their people.

Nader Al-Awda, coordinator of the care center in the department, pointed to the participation of a group of expatriates from several governorates to display collectibles that reflect the heritage of each governorate.

Participant Fatima Al-Issa indicated that she was keen to show the beautiful heritage image of Al-Hasakah Governorate, through works related to coffee tools and traditional dress that distinguishes her children.

While participant Barakat Al-Mutlaq explained that he presented models of various monuments from Palmyra and exhibits associated with folk costumes from Chamakh, Al-Aqal, Jalabiya and others, while Jinan Kamal Al-Din from Sweida Governorate indicated that she wanted through her participation with straw dishes and coffee tools to reflect the authentic customs and traditions in the governorate.

While the Hourani costume and the mold bread for which Daraa province is famous was present through Issa Al-Ghouthani, who was keen to be present to reflect the beautiful image of Syria and its civilizations, while Ahmed Al-Khalaf from Deir Ezzor Governorate displayed various collectibles from the yarn of wool, and the so-called "nados" used to mow grass, as well as "Al-Masaha" to plow the land and the diri costume.

The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 21, is celebrated on May 2002 of each year, after UNESCO adopted in 2001 the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity, in recognition of the need to promote the potential of culture as a means to achieve prosperity, sustainable development and peaceful coexistence at the global level.
