Abdullah bin Zayed, Josep Borrell discuss regional situation, regional and international issues

The European Union praises the UAE's outstanding humanitarian efforts and initiatives in the world

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, met with European Commission Vice President Josep Borrell, who praised the UAE's outstanding humanitarian efforts and initiatives around the world, and its support for multilateral international action to promote international peace and security.

During the meeting, which was held in Brussels, they discussed bilateral relations between the UAE, the European Union and EU member states, and ways to support and strengthen these relations in all fields.

Sheikh Abdullah and Borrell also discussed and exchanged views on the situation in the region and regional and international issues of common interest, stressing the importance of strengthening multilateral international cooperation in order to achieve peace, stability and development in the world.

The talks dealt with developments in the situation in Sudan, ways to reach a comprehensive political settlement of the crisis, and reviewed the efforts made in the evacuation operations.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, discussed combating climate change, ways to accelerate global climate action, and the UAE's preparations to host the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) this year in Expo City Dubai.

Sheikh Abdullah pointed to the importance of adopting a comprehensive and targeted approach to address the repercussions of climate change, adding that the challenges arising from climate change directly affect security and stability in the world, and stressed the need to accelerate the pace of global climate action in order to support comprehensive and sustainable development paths in societies.

During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah and Josep Borrell discussed a number of other issues of common interest, in addition to joint cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

His Highness stressed that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is keen to establish fruitful and constructive relations with the European Union and member states, noting that the strategic partnerships that unite the UAE with a number of European countries have created promising prospects for positive and creative cooperation in all fields.

For his part, Josep Borrell welcomed the visit of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, stressing the distinguished relations between the UAE, the European Union and member states.

In a related context, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Josep Borrell met with a delegation of students from the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy while they were in Brussels on a scientific trip, which includes visiting a number of headquarters of international institutions and bodies, including the European Commission.
