Massive flooding two days after heavy rains in the northern Italian regions of Emilia-Romagna and Marche have left people dead and damaged along the country's Adriatic coast. Italian media reported yesterday that the coastal region has been hit by severe storms since Tuesday, killing three people. A man who was staying on the ground floor of his house drowned, and there are also reports of missing persons. Italy's fire service said it had deployed 400 firefighters and responded to 600 calls since Tuesday morning.

Firefighters rescued people trapped in their homes by water and drivers stranded in the floods. According to the Civil Defence Authority, 14 rivers overflowed in the Emilia-Romagna area. Italy's civil defence minister, Nelo Musomisi, said 5000,<> people had been evacuated. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her "full solidarity" with citizens in the affected areas, writing on Twitter that "the government is closely following the development of events and is ready to take the necessary relief measures."
