The CDU parliamentary group in the Berlin House of Representatives is calling for the cancellation of the concerts of ex-"Pink Floyd" musician Roger Waters on Wednesday and Thursday in Berlin's Mercedes Benz Arena. The ideas of the anti-Semitic British musician burdened the social peace in the city, said CDU parliamentary group chairman Dirk Stettner and the spokesman for combating anti-Semitism, Timur Husein, on Tuesday in Berlin.

The 79-year-old, former "Pink Floyd" member is accused of anti-Israel and anti-Semitic statements. Among other things, he is supposed to support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign, which advocates a boycott of Israel.

Many protests, little legal recourse

Art is allowed to do a lot and artistic freedom is a very valuable asset, said Stettner: "But we must not and must not look away, in this case turn a blind eye when artists use their power for anti-Semitism and agitation."

Husein said that the Senate had no legal recourse to prevent the concerts from taking place: "But the organizer or the hall operator can do this, which we urge him to do." If wide-reaching artists spread anti-Semitic resentment in Berlin, hostility against Berlin Jews would continue to increase.

There have already been many protests in Germany against Waters' concert tour "This is not a drill", but little legal recourse. The city of Frankfurt/Main and the state of Hesse had cancelled a concert on May 28 in Frankfurt and terminated the event contract. The musician had successfully defended himself against this in court.
