The images had turned a lot, arousing anger and misunderstanding. On March 16, a few hours after the announcement of the use of 49.3 to pass the pension reform, a wild demonstration had degenerated in Rennes. On the outskirts of Mama Shelter, clashes broke out between security guards of the brand new luxury hotel and radical individuals who defaced the façade of the newly inaugurated establishment. On Monday, a student in his twenties was sentenced to ten months in prison, including five months for this violence committed on the Place des Lices.

Unknown to the justice, the young man was found guilty of acts of violence, damage and participation in a group to commit violence and damage. "I think that this evening should not go unpunished and that someone had to be sentenced to come and respond to a number of requests, which were formulated, of severity, or in any case of judicial responses," said his lawyer Nicolas Prigent who denounces "random arrests". He will have to pay 800 euros to each of the security guards and 10,000 euros to the hotel chain.

The other student who was to be tried for the same facts was acquitted, due to a nullity of the procedure, the minutes having been cancelled.

That day, one of the security guards at the Mama Shelter testified that he had been injured by a protester armed with a machete. Seen with the weapon in his hand, the security guard had assured that he had picked up the weapon on the ground, which was disputed by demonstrators. Hooded individuals had thrown projectiles at the two officers, including chairs on the terrace of the nearby bar.
