If everything were done with democratically right-wing things, the political situation in Thailand would be clear. The next prime minister would be Pita Limjaroenrat. His party has become the strongest force in the parliamentary elections and has already found a coalition partner with whom it has a solid majority. The supporters of the previous government have been clearly punished by the voters.

The only problem is that the losers of the election are "protégés" of the military. And the soldiers not only consider themselves the guardians of the state vis-à-vis foreign countries, but also believe undauntedly that they know better than civilian politicians what is best for Thailand internally.

Winners deserve a chance

Therefore, it is not yet certain that the winner of the election will also be the next prime minister. It is hard to imagine that the military can simply ignore such a clear vote as Sunday's. But it is not only in Thailand that political soldiers have often shown that the laws of political logic, not to mention political decency, do not apply to them.

Nevertheless, Pita Limjaroenrat is optimistic. And maybe everything will turn out well in Thailand in the end. Of course, no one knows whether the winners of the 2023 elections are really doing everything better than their predecessors. But they deserve a chance.
