With spring, lovers of acacia flower fritters were able to reconnect with this treat. But the Bordeaux University Hospital, in a post on Instagram, says that several cases of poisoning have been taken care of by the Bordeaux poison control center in recent weeks after the ingestion of flowers that look like those of acacias but have a toxic character.

Cytise, whose flower is yellow should not be ingested while acacia, white flower, can be consumed. In its publication, however, the CHU specifies that only acacia flowers are edible and not leaves. Its consumption can give rise to gastric disorders or even more serious symptoms.

If in doubt, pick up should be presented to a pharmacist or call the poison control centre.
