It's a paltry sum, but big enough to make this Australian "crazy". The owner of a rented house launched a call for help on May 8 on a Facebook group of landlords. In his message, he explains that his tenant has recently started deducting a penny from the weekly rent he pays him, reports the Daily Mail.

In recent weeks, the owner receives 1,199.99 Australian dollars for the rental, against the 1,200 dollars (nearly 740 euros) provided for in the contract, relays West-France. "It's enough to go crazy," says the owner, who asks others for advice on "dealing with [this] tenant who is obviously having fun at my expense."

Repairs requested

Asked by email about this difference in rent paid, the tenant explained himself by referring to the rules of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. These rules prohibit landlords from rounding up the amounts requested, recalls the tenant who ensures that this is what his landlord did by setting the rent at $ 1,200.

The tenant's response contains another explanation: the repairs he considers necessary in the dwelling. "The laundry closet door squeaks, the cold water tap in the kitchen has too high a pressure, [...] The air conditioner duct in the 2nd bedroom makes noise, "lists the tenant. According to him, the owner has not responded to his requests for repairs. "I ask you not to contact me about this anymore," the tenant concludes coldly in his email. Destitute, the landlord said he did not intend to renew the lease with this man in February 2024.
