The ROK-Japan consultations, headed by the chief representative of the
director of science at the ROK-Japan Foreign Authority, ended at 13 a.m. today (2th), well beyond the scheduled time.

During the 12-hour meeting, the two countries discussed the scope of activities, including the schedule for dispatching the inspection team and the items to be inspected, based on detailed suggestions from our side.

The two sides agreed to conduct a four-day visit to Japan by a delegation of Korean experts on the contaminated water site at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

Accordingly, the visit of the Korean expert inspection team is expected to last for four days and three nights, including the announced on-site inspection dates of the 23rd and 24th.

The inspection team is expected to consist of around 3 people.

[Park Koo-yeon/First Deputy Director of the State Affairs Coordination Office (yesterday): We plan to make up the best experts in the field of safety regulation. We are reviewing experts who have been in charge of safety reviews so far.]

However, details such as which facilities to tour and to what extent they could be inspected were not finalized.

Our government's position is that if we check the site based on the data we have obtained, we will be able to conduct a comprehensive analysis of safety.

However, the Japanese government has drawn a line, saying that the South Korean inspection team will not evaluate safety.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the two sides would hold further consultations and coordinate details as soon as possible.
