Yemen.. New round of consultations in Sana'a precedes truce announcement

Yemeni political sources expected that a new round of consultations will be held in the next few days between the Saudi and Omani delegations on the one hand, and Houthi leaders, in the presence of the head of the militia delegation, negotiator Mohammed Abdul Salam, in Sanaa.

The sources pointed out that arrangements are currently underway to start the second round of consultations, to complete what was discussed in the previous round, which was held at the end of last Ramadan.

She expected that during the new round, all differences and obstacles that stand in the way of declaring a truce will be overcome, and the first phase of the roadmap for peace in Yemen will begin.

The Saudi initiative includes "a comprehensive ceasefire, the opening of Sana'a airport and the ports of Hodeidah, the payment of salaries of employees, the release of prisoners, the opening of roads and crossings, and the start of consultations between the Yemeni parties to reach a political solution to the Yemeni crisis under the auspices of the United Nations, based on the terms of reference of UN Security Council Resolution 2216, the Gulf initiative, and the outcomes of the comprehensive Yemeni national dialogue."

The Saudi ambassador to Yemen held talks with the government side in Aden on Saudi mediation efforts to renew the truce, alleviate human suffering, ceasefire, and the chances of reaching a comprehensive political solution in Yemen under the auspices of the United Nations.

Saudi Ambassador Al Jaber indicated in a tweet on "Twitter" that he met with the Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, and a member of the Council, Major General Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, in Aden, and stressed the Kingdom's continuous support for the Council's efforts in serving the brotherly Yemeni people, and also explained the Kingdom's ongoing efforts for a ceasefire, and the chances of reaching a comprehensive political solution in Yemen among the Yemeni components under the auspices of the United Nations.

For his part, Yemeni Prime Minister Maeen Abdul Malik stressed during his meeting with the Saudi ambassador that restoring the state and ending the coup of the Houthi militias are the main entrance to the return of stability to Yemen, maintaining the security and stability of the region, and securing international navigation and global trade.

On the other hand, Ambassador Al-Jaber handed President Al-Alimi an invitation from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz to attend the Arab Summit to be held in Jeddah on May 19.

In addition, the selection of representatives of Yemeni components in the liberated areas to participate in the final status negotiations continued, in accordance with the tracks of the announced roadmap, while the Houthi areas witnessed the exclusion of the participation of political, tribal and human rights components, and limited participation to the militia delegation consisting of elements belonging to Saada governorate.
While the Yemeni government directed the Ministry of Transport and its affiliated bodies to secure the movement of trade in "land and sea ports", provide more facilities for traders, raise the readiness of land, sea and air ports and operate them at full capacity, observers of Yemeni affairs considered this within the framework of confidence-building processes and the implementation of the terms of calm in its humanitarian aspect, especially with regard to opening airports and ports to international navigation.
