A soldier opens fire on the island of Djerba, in Tunisia, for reasons still unknown. And it is massacre: the dead are at least 4, including the assailant, the wounded a dozen.

It all took place on Tuesday evening near the Ghriba synagogue, where an annual Jewish pilgrimage was being held.
According to a first reconstruction of the facts, a member of the National Guard in force at the naval center of the island killed a colleague with the service weapon, then tried to enter the synagogue and began firing at the security units on the spot, who returned fire. The area was put on alert, people invited to seek shelter.

The dead are therefore the same assailant, another soldier and two civilians - including a citizen French. The wounded would be at least ten.

The Tunisian Interior Ministry says that the interior and exterior of the synagogue have been secured and that the authorities' searches continue to discover "the reasons for this cowardly attack".

The Ghriba synagogue - according to legend - is about 2500 years old but was rebuilt at the end of the nineteenth century on the site of the previous building of the sixth century.
It is located in the center of the island of Djerba, home to one of the oldest Jewish communities in the Mediterranean, well integrated into a Muslim-majority country. The pilgrimage taking place in these hours attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world every year.
To access it you must undergo various security checks, especially after the place was the subject of a bloody attack in 2002 then claimed by the local wing of Al Qaeda: a truck was blown up at the entrance, the dead were 20.
