Germany has never experienced anything like this before: The National Football League (NFL) will play a key role in shaping Frankfurt's cityscape for two weeks in November. On Wednesday morning at 13 p.m. (7 a.m. local time on the American East Coast), the world's highest-grossing professional sports league announced that two games of the regular season of the world's largest American football league will take place on two consecutive Sundays in Frankfurt. On November 5, the Kansas City Chiefs, who are also very popular in Germany through a partnership with Bayern Munich, will face the Miami Dolphins. On November 12, the Indianapolis Colts will play against the New England Patriots, who are also very well known in Germany not only among die-hard football fans.

Like last year's duel in Munich, the games are likely to be scheduled at 15:30 p.m., at least the Pariots had already accidentally announced this kickoff time for their game on their homepage. Advance sales are scheduled to begin in the summer. In order to purchase tickets for the International Games, fans must pre-register for tickets at nfl.com/internationalgames. However, the chances of getting one of the 100,000 tickets for both games together are manageable. Last year, almost half a million football fans from all over Europe applied for tickets.

Only one game in Munich last year

"We can confirm that the two games in Germany will be played in Frankfurt, a city with a great NFL tradition," said Peter O'Reilly, NFL Executive Vice President, Club Business, Major Events & International, live on the official NFL broadcaster. "We are full of anticipation to play both games at the Eintracht Frankfurt stadium and to build on the incredible atmosphere at the last game in Munich."

Last year, the first NFL game on German soil took place in Munich, which gave the Bavarian capital a week of football fever with tens of thousands of fans in the city and an estimated turnover of 70 million euros. A combination of several games in Europe was previously only in London, where the NFL has once again awarded three games this year, which are to take place between October 1 and 15 on consecutive weekends. There had never been five games in Europe in one season before. One reason for the increase in the contingent is likely to be that the traditional game in Mexico cannot be played this year due to renovation work in the Aztec Stadium.

Frankfurt with a large supporting programme

"It is a great honor for the city of Frankfurt am Main to be able to host two international NFL games in the stadium in November of this year," said Mayor-designate Mike Josef (SPD), who had played a key role in driving the bid for the games in his role as head of the sports department of the city of Frankfurt. "The Games make Frankfurt even more attractive as a sports city. The city of Frankfurt and the region are eagerly awaiting the two major events. The fact that the NFL is coming to Frankfurt is a great enrichment, especially for the sport and the regional economy."
