Assad receives official invitation from Saudi Arabia to participate in the Arab summit

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday received an official invitation from Saudi Arabia to participate in the Arab summit to be held in Jeddah next week, the Syrian presidency announced, in the first invitation Damascus has received since the outbreak of the conflict.

The presidency reported that Assad received "an invitation from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to participate in the thirty-second session of the meeting of the Council of the League of Arab States at the summit level, which will be held in Jeddah on May 19." Assad received the invitation from Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Jordan, Nayef al-Sudairy.
