43 sustainability innovators showcase their projects at Expo Live

A total of 43 innovators from 37 countries will showcase their sustainability innovations at Expo City from yesterday until tomorrow, to be among the selected projects in the sixth round of Expo Live, which focuses on solutions related to combating climate change.


Bassima Abdulrahman, founder and CEO of CASEC, a company specialized in green technology, stressed that the UAE is one of the leading countries in the field of sustainability, with its insightful vision towards sustainable work in all sectors, and the steady and successive steps it takes in this field.


Abdul Rahman, who is participating in the show, explained to "Emirates Today" that her company, based in Iraq, is among 4 Arab companies participating in the Expo, and the company specializes in the field of green technology, and focuses on implementing and providing solar energy solutions, monitoring and managing its projects (solar energy) and its products.


She added that participation in COP28 is considered moral support for the participating parties, especially since this edition of the conference is hosted by the UAE, which indicates the organizational excellence of this edition, and the importance of environmental issues to confront climate change facing the world.


Yousef Kers, Executive Director of Expo Innovation Programme, said: "The quantity and quality of the projects developed and the solutions we have seen from around the world is evident from the creativity of the global community in contributing to tackling climate change.


"Every innovation that has reached the final stage has the potential to improve people's lives and has a tangible positive impact on the future of our planet, we look forward to learning more about innovators' inspiring solutions, welcoming selected projects into our community of global innovators, and proudly sharing these ideas with climate decision-makers from around the world when we host COP28."


Projects include an initiative by the UAE to convert carbon dioxide into rock, an Indian company that manufactures carbon-negative building materials, a Burundi-based project that converts banana waste into environmentally friendly packaging materials, and a women-led organic soil farm in Lebanon capable of producing three times more food than normal and contributing to mitigating climate change.Expo Innovation Live has so far supported 140 global innovators from 76 countries, with one-third of the projects supported Almost relevant to sustainability and environmental issues. The programme positively impacted 5.8 million people worldwide and contributed to the restoration of 36 million hectares of land, offsetting 190,6 tonnes of carbon dioxide and saving 3.<> million litres of water.


Launched as part of Expo 2020 Dubai and running within Expo City Dubai, Expo Live is helping innovators from around the world develop solutions to pressing global challenges and support projects that improve people's lives or preserve the planet.
