"It is May 8 that most of the peoples of the world remember the greatness of the victory over Nazism and bow to all those who defended and protected life", is the 13-minute long video appeal, where the Ukrainian president, Zelensky, addresses the Ukrainians, the day before the victory parade in Moscow - where Russia has been celebrating the victory over Nazism for more than seventy years - announcing that it has presented a proposal for law that will establish in Ukraine May 8, as "victory day".

"In front of those who lowered Nazi flags on liberated territory and who opened the gates of concentration camps, who restored freedom to peoples, who destroyed and condemned Nazi evil. On May 8, the law on the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht came into force. It is May 8 that the world honors the memory of all those whose lives were taken from the war."

And so, the announcement of the Ukrainian president: "Today I presented a bill to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine proposing to establish May 8 as the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II of 1939-1945. Eternal memory to all those who died in the Second World War! Glory to all those who fought against Nazism and won! Glory to all our heroes of different ages, to whom we owe our lives equally!"
