"Autonomy and presidentialism ahead. I am the strongest supporter of both reforms." The Minister for Regional Affairs and Autonomies Roberto Calderoli, interviewed by Corriere della Sera, is preparing for an important week: tomorrow the Technical Scientific Committee on performance levels (CLEP) chaired by Sabino Cassese will take office, while Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will meet the political forces in Montecitorio, starting the confrontation with the opposition on reforms . "The left and Conte - says Calderoli - should take note that they lost the elections. However, unlike what happened in the past — when they did everything without involving the opposition — this time someone asks for their involvement in reforms that affect the life of the country and citizens. If their role is to be exercised only as a right of veto, they do not have it. I suggest that they make proposals and corrections. If they have griefed, fine. If not, we'll talk about it again in 5 years."

And the minister recalls: "Schlein was the vice-president of a Region, Emilia-Romagna, which asked for autonomy not only by signing with Gentiloni the pre-agreement on 5 subjects. But he also made another proposal, Conte premier, in which he asked for 16. It's the inconsistencies."

As for the establishment of a bicameral Commission, Calderoli explained: "If there were a real willingness of the opposition to discuss reforms, presidentialism, it is a possibility that I myself would embrace. But given past experiences, I'm not all that optimistic: none have ever produced results. In the light of the answers that will be given by the opposition, it will be possible to decide whether there is a space or not".

On the timing the minister specifies: "I absolutely do not want to compress the times" of the reform path in the Senate, "I want there to be the widest possible discussion, my goal is to achieve the best final result. If it turns out that parliamentary instruments are aimed only at filibustering, we will be forced to go our own way. But that's absolutely not what I want. Tell me where the text is wrong, if any, and where to correct it," he concluded.
