In the case of the knife attacks in Duisburg, investigators have discovered further evidence of an Islamist motivation of the suspect, according to dpa information. Accordingly, notes in Arabic were found in the Syrian's apartment, which dealt with explosives and poison gases. Der Spiegel had previously reported on it online.

The twenty-six-year-old is said to have stabbed a 35-year-old man in Duisburg on the night of Easter Sunday. The perpetrator initially escaped unrecognized. A few days later, the Syrian is said to have injured four people with a knife in a gym, some of them life-threatening.

Through a photo search, the investigators came across the suspect after this attack. Through a DNA trace, he could then also be identified as the alleged perpetrator in the attack at Easter.

The Federal Prosecutor's Office had taken over the investigation against the man because of the special importance of the case. At that time, the Karlsruhe authorities already announced that there were indications of a possible Islamist motivation for the crime.

According to Der Spiegel, passages from the Koran were found on other pieces of paper belonging to the man, which were directed against "infidels". However, the translation and evaluation of the notes has not yet been completed.
