The initiative was implemented in cooperation between the Dubai Health Authority, Al Ameen Service, Emarat Al Youm and Global Village.

Dr. Hussein Al-Sammat, Director of the Laboratories and Genetics Department at the Authority, confirmed to Emirates Today that the initiative succeeded in attracting young visitors to the Global Village during its season from December 14 to April 27, where they constituted 64.4%.

He stated that statistics showed an increase in the number of donors from UAE nationals, reaching 309 citizens, or 26.64%, including 73 female citizens, which reflects the growing community awareness of the importance of blood donation.

For her part, Dr. Mai Raouf, Director of the Dubai Blood Donation Center, stated that the initiative aims to spread awareness and culture about blood donation as a humanitarian and national act, as well as attracting donors for the first time to expand the blood donor base in the Emirate of Dubai, and support the Authority's database in emergency and crisis situations and the need for donors of rare blood types.

It also aims to focus on the age group 18-30 years (youth) to make blood donation part of a healthy lifestyle, and encourage government entities in the Emirate of Dubai to support blood donation, by participating in blood donation campaigns.

The "My Blood for My Homeland" campaign was launched in its first edition in 2012, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, and is organized in strategic partnership and cooperation between the "Secretary Service", the Health Authority, and the newspaper "Emarat Al Youm".

His Highness was the first blood donor, which contributed to the success of the initiative, and encouraged members of the community to participate in it, especially after His Highness stressed the importance of the initiative by saying, "Blood donation is the best gift that citizens and residents can give as an expression of patriotism, especially since there are patients and injured people in need of every drop of blood."

The campaign has achieved successive successes over the past years, enhancing the stock and capabilities of the Dubai Blood Donation Center, and its ability to provide sufficient quantities of blood to patients in need in various public and private sector hospitals in Dubai.
