The All Under One banner was led by a bagpipe band. Unlike the protests in London against the monarchy, frustrations in Glasgow targeted the Tory government.

The leader of the National Party of Scotland Alba and former First Minister, Alex Salmond, told the newspapers: "What I like to think about is a story that is being made today in two cities, in London people are linked to a king. In Glasgow, the citizens, not the subjects, choose independence."

Eight years ago Scotland said no to independence, with 55% of voters voting to remain part of the UK. Former Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon had drawn up a political agenda according to which a new vote on independence will be held by the end of 2023, from March 23 his place was taken by Humza Yousaf (37 years old, of humble extraction, Pakistani father and Kenyan mother) who had announced the same intentions at the beginning of his mandate.
