Polish plane narrowly avoids collision with Russian fighter

Romania and Poland said a Polish plane patrolling for the European border and coast guard agency Frontex over the Black Sea near Romania narrowly avoided a collision with a Russian fighter jet on Friday.

Anna Michaleska, a spokeswoman for the border guard, wrote on Sunday on Twitter that a Russian Su-35 fighter jet had carried out "dangerous aggression and manoeuvres" by approaching a Polish plane without maintaining a safe distance, resulting in imbalance, loss of altitude and temporary loss of control of the plane from its Polish crew.

"The Russian fighter flew facing the front of the Polish plane and intercepted its course from a dangerous distance estimated by the crew to be about five meters."

It noted that the Russian fighter jet moved away three times after approaching the incident, which occurred in international airspace.

The Romanian Defense Ministry said in a press statement that the behavior of the Russian fighter was completely unacceptable.

"This incident is further proof of the provocative approach of the Russian Federation in the Black Sea," the ministry said in the statement.
