THE ESSENTIALS

  • A ceremony awaited and broadcast all over the world! Seventy years after his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died last September at the age of 96, King Charles III will be crowned this Saturday in London, along with his wife, Queen Camilla.
  • This sumptuous ritual, steeped in nearly 1,000 years of British history, will take place at Westminster Abbey, as has been the tradition since William the Conqueror in 1066. King Charles III will be the 40th reigning monarch crowned since 1066.
  • More than 2,200 guests from 203 countries are expected in Westminster Abbey to attend the event.

09:07: The crowd is ready to attend the procession

It all started at 7 a.m. (French time, or 6 a.m. for our British neighbors) with the opening to the public of the reserved observation areas along the route of the procession, in the streets of London. The most fervent admirers of royalty began to settle on the Mall, the avenue leading from Buckingham Palace, to be in the front row.
