A 39-year-old man was sentenced Thursday, in Rennes, to eighteen years in prison by the Assize Court of Ille-et-Vilaine. The accused was found guilty of murder and wilful violence. Events that occurred on August 3, 2019 in Fougères, east of Rennes. The victim, aged 49, had been killed by thirty stab wounds. The drama took place in the apartment of a young woman, who had also been wounded in the throat by the thirty-year-old with a knife, reports Ouest-France.

A regular drug user, the accused obtained narcotics from the deceased man. He was arrested a few hours after the murder, at his father's home in a nearby commune. At the hearing, he claimed to have reacted to defend himself from an assault after an argument.
