Eight people were killed and 13 wounded in a shooting near a Serbian town about 60 kilometers south of the capital Belgrade, just a day after a school shooting also left eight dead in Belgrade.

The shooting took place late Thursday evening near Mladenovac, when the attacker opened fire with an automatic weapon from a car and then fled. Police searching for the suspect, believed to be a 21-year-old man, surrounded an area where he is believed to be hiding, Serbian television RTS reported.

A heavy police presence was deployed as helicopters flew over the area. On Wednesday, a 13-year-old student killed eight peers and a security guard at a Belgrade primary school, an attack that rocked the Balkan country.
