Ariel doll, the protagonist of the Disney movie "The Little Mermaid," which will be released on the 24th, is making a sensation by becoming the No. 1 doll seller in the United States.

Recently, Rolling Stone, Billboard, and others reported that a black Little Mermaid doll modeled after "The Little Mermaid" lead actress, Halle Bailey, has become the No. 1 selling doll on Amazon, the largest e-commerce platform in the United States.

The Little Mermaid doll, registered on Amazon, sells for $14.99 (about 2,1 KRW) and looks a lot like Halle Bailey in the movie, right down to the point above her eyebrows.

Earlier, the "Little Mermaid" movie made a splash by casting a black actor as the protagonist instead of a red-haired white actor like in the animated version.

After the unconventional casting was revealed, some fans criticized it for not fitting the character setting of the original film, and at the time, Disney said, "Danish 'mermaids' can also be black because Danish 'people' can be black."

Commenting on the Black Little Mermaid doll's No. <> bestseller, Rolling Stone said, "This is not only a huge victory for representation, it's a true Disney princess rite of passage."

This brings Halle Bailey's version of the Ariel doll into the ranks of collectible dolls, like Belle in "Beauty and the Beast" played by Emma Watson and Jasmine in "Aladdin" played by Naomi Scott.

Halle Bailey also celebrated the launch of a doll that looks like her in March, saying, "I finally have my own Little Mermaid doll. I can't believe how much you look like me."

Meanwhile, the production company of The Little Mermaid doll announced that it will release more Halle Bailey versions of dolls for fans, including "Ariel Singing" and "Ariel Adorned with Gold and Jewels" to celebrate the film's release.
