The remains of a man who went fishing in crocodile infested waters in Australia have been found... inside two reptiles. This was announced by the local police on Wednesday, closing the case.

The man, aged 65, had gone on Saturday to a fishing trip in the north of the state of Queensland with residents of the region. The group had to fend off a crocodile before they started fishing. Witnesses then heard the sexagenarian "screaming, screaming very loudly" before falling into the water, according to a police inspector.

A classic death in the "land of crocs"

The man was not found afterwards. But rangers armed with rifles recently shot two crocodiles several meters long in Lakefield National Park, where the fishing trip had taken place. Expertise on the two reptiles "made it possible to identify, unfortunately, the remains of the missing man," said the inspector, who describes a "tragic end".

The sexagenarian, described as "very nice", was the manager of a pub in the north of the state. Queensland is rightly known as "the land of crocs," according to Michael Joyce, who is responsible for wildlife issues in the region. "If you're in the water and especially if you're in Lakefield, ... You should expect to see crocodiles in these waters. »
