Ten years after his death, a previously unpublished novel by the Colombian Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez (1927-2014) is to be published. "En agosto nos vemos" (See you in August) will be released next year in the Spanish-speaking market, with the exception of Mexico, publisher Random House announced on Friday.

"The book was the result of his efforts to keep working against all odds. If you read it again ten years after his death, you will see that the text has many merits that distinguish his work," said a statement from his sons Rodrigo and Gonzalo García Barcha.

García Márquez was considered one of Latin America's best writers and an influential exponent of magical realism. The author of "One Hundred Years of Solitude" and "Love in the Times of Cholera" was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982. He died in 2014 in his adopted home of Mexico.

"As publishers of Gabriel García Márquez's complete works, we are very proud of the publication of one of his unpublished works," said Penguin Random House Director Pilar Reyes. "It's a message that readers around the world will celebrate. It is also an honor to publish it in 2024, when we commemorate his death ten years ago."
