Two young women are laughing and talking on the train.

Slightly covering his mouth, I listened closely, [nihao]

is a Chinese greeting, but it is a mocking term that demeans people of Asian descent,

including China.

The group consisted of three female university students from Milan, northern Italy.

The person who filmed the video and posted it on social media was Pakistani-American filmmaker Mahnur Yousef, who was traveling with his Chinese-American boyfriend and his Chinese mother.

On a train from Lake Como to Milan, a popular tourist destination in northern Italy, three college girls seated diagonally looked at them, laughed and continued to make mocking jokes.

The video quickly spread through various social media platforms and caused a public outcry.

Social media users found the three female college students' colleges and filed a complaint with the university.

The three Italian universities to which they belong issued a statement saying that "we oppose all forms of racism and discrimination" and that they would take necessary action based on the findings of the fact-finding investigation.

Youssef, who posted the video, said one of the three apologized and asked to take down the video, but he refused.

"Next time, I hope you will think twice before threatening and mocking foreigners," Youssef said, adding, "I hope you will learn from this and take responsibility for your actions."
