The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has exempted 16 private schools operating in the emirate from the decision to allow an increase in tuition fees for the next academic year, as these schools have not completed three years since the beginning of their operations, nor have they been evaluated during the last cycle of the "Irtiqaa" school inspection program.

Schools exempted from the decision to allow tuition increases for the next academic year include: Spanish School Abu Dhabi, Italian International School, Russian School Abu Dhabi, International French School Theodore Mono, Al Yasmina British Academy - Aldar Academies, GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi (International Baccalaureate), Axel International School, Ocean American School, Al Raha International School - Khalifa City A, Al Shorouk International School - Abu Dhabi Island, International Community School Branch 22 - Al Falah, and International School Community - Khalifa City, Arzana Private School, British Oak Montessori School, Liwa International School – Al Qattara, in addition to Universal Philippine School.

The Department indicated that it has adopted the structure of the optional increase in tuition fees for the next academic year after stopping the increase in tuition fees for the past three academic years, in order to support parents during the recovery phase from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, pointing out that it conducted an assessment of tuition fees for the fifth consecutive year and approved the rates of increase based on the results of the education cost index, which is calculated in cooperation with the Statistics Centre in Abu Dhabi, and according to the classification of each school in the "Irtiqaa" program for evaluating schools.

The department confirmed that it pursues a clear and transparent policy to regulate fees for both private schools and parents, to ensure that tuition fees reflect the quality of education, noting that it takes into account conducting a financial study using the financial model issued by it for this purpose, and comparing school fees with school fees of similar quality and curricula, while estimating the general effectiveness of the school in the latest evaluation report, in addition to the cost of school facilities and services, and ensuring that no fees are set that enable the school to achieve Excessive profits, stressing its refusal to prioritize commercial interest over the quality of education.

The department pointed out that the school must obtain its approval regarding school fees, schedules for payment, and procedures for payment, before announcing them to parents, and before proceeding with their collection.

It is worth noting that ADEK has allowed 196 private schools operating in the emirate to increase their tuition fees for the next academic year 2023-2024 by between 2.25% and 3.94% of the value of their tuition fees for the current year, where schools that achieve an "outstanding" rating in the "Irtiqaa" program will receive an increase of 3.94%.

This percentage was set for schools that received a rating of "very good" at 3.38%, while the increase ranged from 2.81% for schools with a rating of "good", to a maximum of 2.25% for schools that scored "acceptable", "poor" or "very poor".

High quality education system

The Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has affirmed its endeavor to build a high-quality educational system that encourages innovation and excellence, and contributes to preparing students to face future challenges through programs, initiatives and regulations that improve the educational process and its outputs from kindergarten to the end of secondary school.
