US President Joe Biden announced yesterday his candidacy for a second term in the upcoming elections in 2024, officially, and said in a video posted on the social networking site «Twitter»: «I am a candidate for a second term», while the Republican Party was quick to accuse him of «separation from reality».

This will be Biden's fourth presidential race, as before he was elected in 2020, he ran in 1998 and 2008, each time suffering a severe defeat.

Yesterday marked the fourth anniversary of Democrat Joe Biden's entry into the previous presidential campaign, at the end of which Donald Trump was denied a second term, and if the polls' predictions are correct, another competition between the two men is on the horizon. The announcement of candidacy on this date carries strong symbolism.

Since the beginning of the year, Biden has stressed his desire to restore the "dignity of a forgotten popular America," which Donald Trump knew how to appeal.

Biden believes that statistics are on his side, as American presidents generally run and are often re-elected, but the octogenarian president, through his age, defies historical precedents, and if he is re-elected, his second term will end at the age of 86.

In November 2021, and in February 2023, Biden underwent medical tests that concluded that he was in good health, but the Democratic president is expected to be exposed to escalating Republican attacks on his mental ability.

Ahead of his rival's announcement, Donald Trump denounced the outcome of the current president's performance, and the Republican billionaire said in a statement: "The five worst presidents in the history of the United States can be taken, who together did not cause more damage than Joe Biden did to our country in just a few years."

In the same context, the Republican Party considered that Joe Biden is "detached from reality", after announcing the decision to run in the next presidential election, and the Republican National Committee said that "Biden is so detached from reality that after causing one crisis after another, he sees himself worthy of four more years." The committee warned that if Biden wins, inflation will continue to skyrocket, crime rates will rise, and American families will be worse off.
