Former representative Song Young-gil, who is at the center of the money envelope allegations at the
Democratic National Convention, returned home yesterday (24). Song said he would come out and investigate whenever prosecutors called, but he reiterated that he was unaware of the allegations. Representative Lee Jae-myung was asked by a reporter whether the People's Power was also suspected of illegal political funding.

A mixture of
cheers and protests at the arrival hall of Incheon Airport.

Song Young-gil, a former MDP representative who announced his withdrawal from Paris to take political responsibility over the money envelope allegations, has returned home.

Song pleaded with the people and Party members and said he would not run away and take the lead in resolving the issue responsibly.

[Song Young-gil/Former Democratic Party Representative: The prosecution will say that if you summon me today, rather than calling people around you and going around, they will respond vigorously.]

He reiterated his previous position that he "does not know" about the money envelope allegations, and did not respond to questions about whether he viewed the prosecutor's investigation as a crackdown on the opposition and what his position was on calls from within the party to retire from politics.

Regarding Song's return, the MDP leadership spared no words.

Representative Lee Jae-myung suddenly brought up the story of former lawmaker Kim Hyun-a, the power of the people, in response to an outpouring of questions from reporters.

[Lee Jae-myung/MDP representative: What is going on with (former) Congressman Kim Hyun-a? Don't you know?]

It was interpreted as an attempt to divert public attention from a media report that Kim was under police investigation for allegedly receiving illegal political funds.

Kim denies the allegations, saying they are fake news.

[Kim Ki-hyun/Representative of the People's Power: From the perspective of ordinary people with common sense, it only makes us feel the serious moral insensitivity underlying the MDP, which is insensitive to corruption.]

Even with Song's return, conflicts within and outside the party have not abated due to the party-level self-investigation, the attendance of relevant lawmakers, and the demand for defection from the party.
