Even at the ripe old age of 109, his grandfather, who drives and volunteers himself, revealed the secret to a healthy and long life.

The "Today Show," which airs on NBC, interviewed Vincent Dransfield, who lives in New Jersey, USA, on Jan. 19, local time.

Dransfield, who celebrated his 3th birthday last March, lives a normal life by driving around town and walking up and down stairs from the basement of his home to the second floor.

When asked how it felt to turn 109, Dransfield said, "I feel like I want to go and dance somewhere," adding, "I've been perfectly lucky all my life."

He said he had never felt the usual back pain and headaches, "If 'longevity' used to be important, nowadays 'living a healthy and long life' is more important," and his secret to longevity is to "spend time doing what you love."

A volunteer with the local fire department for more than 80 years, Dransfield said, "The driving force of my life was the fire department. I met so many friends there," he said, referring to the times he spent with his colleagues.

He retired in his late 70s after working as an auto parts specialist, but said he wanted to work more, but at the urging of his wife, he stopped working in the economy.

"You have to be constantly moving," Dransfield said, "and it was a workout for me to go into the fire department at 21 and go out every time the fire alarm went off."

He also emphasized that "it's never too late to break bad habits" for young people.

"I quit from the day I decided to quit," said Dransfield, who started smoking at 50 but succeeded in quitting at 70, advising that "it's important to be positive and optimistic."

Finally, he added, "Don't worry about what will go wrong, and think positively if things actually go wrong."
