In the film, titled "The Challenge," a surgeon is sent to the International Space Station (ISS) to treat an injured astronaut.

Russia sent the lead actor and cinematographer to the International Space Station for 12 days to shoot the film.

Actress Yulia Peresild, 38, who was finally cast through selection conditions and medical examinations set by the Federal Space Agency, stayed in space with director Klim Shipenko, 39, for a 30-hour shoot, 50 minutes of which went into the final film.

After undergoing intense spaceflight training, including weightless flight training and parachute training, the two landed on the International Space Station aboard the Soyuz spacecraft in October 2021 for filming, with cameo appearances by three Russian cosmonauts who were staying there at the time.

Meanwhile, NASA teased the "Hollywood Space Project" with Tom Cruise and Elon Musk for 2020, but "Challenge" succeeded in shooting first, and Russia took over the title of "first feature film shot in space."
