The Acting Director of the External Areas Traffic Department at Abu Dhabi Police, Colonel Abdullah Yousef Al Suwaidi, warned that drowsiness while driving vehicles causes accidents that lead to deaths and serious injuries.

He called on drivers to get enough sleep before driving and leave a sufficient safety distance, especially in the holy month of Ramadan, pointing out that the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols recently carried out campaigns in labor cities, focusing on promoting awareness of compliance with traffic laws and regulations and the prescribed legal speeds.

Al Suwaidi stressed the importance of fully adhering to the seat belt, not being distracted from the road while driving, not exceeding traffic signals, using side signals in the event of changing lanes from one lane to another, leaving a sufficient safety distance between vehicles, and giving priority to pedestrian crossing.

The campaign included the display and distribution of brochures and digital awareness films and educational lectures for workers, including drivers and road users, on the need to adhere to safe passage from the sites designated for them on the roads and the use of bridges and tunnels, he said.

He urged drivers to pay attention to pedestrian traffic and give them priority in safe passage at the designated crossing sites, and reduce speeds in residential areas and human gatherings.

Since the beginning of the holy month, Abu Dhabi Police has launched awareness campaigns on the negative phenomena that are monitored on the roads in the month of Ramadan, stressing the importance of raising traffic awareness to abide by the traffic law and traffic regulations and rules, reducing the causes that lead to traffic accidents and the resulting deaths and serious injuries, and instilling the value of respecting traffic rules and avoiding wrong behaviors while driving.

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police implemented field traffic awareness points in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi with the aim of enhancing traffic safety for drivers and road users during the holy month of Ramadan.

She pointed out that fasting may have effects in drivers with low blood sugar, which affects attention, concentration and vision, noting the importance of drivers' positive reactions and alertness to what is happening around them while driving the vehicle.

The Directorate also warned that preoccupation with the road leads to the sudden deviation of the vehicle due to the use of the phone to browse the Internet and social networking sites, make a call, or take pictures that may lead to serious consequences and traffic accidents as a result of inattention to the road while driving.

Enhancing traffic safety

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters carried out a field traffic awareness campaign in the labor cities in Mussafah, the labor city in Mafraq and the city of peace in "Hameem" in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, with the aim of enhancing traffic safety for drivers and road users during the holy month of Ramadan.
