It sets the goal of having "no more than 50 wolves in the department in the next two or three years": The federation of hunters of the Drôme voted Saturday at its general assembly in La Chapelle-en-Vercors a motion to ask the State to intervene in the regulation of the wolf, reports France Bleu Drôme Ardèche.

Hunters would like to take at least 100 wolves for the 2023/2024 season. According to the Federation, there are currently 23 packs and 200 specimens in the Drôme. The motion was to be transmitted to the prefecture on Monday.

A test department?

The hunters' federation wants the Drôme to become a test department with a regulation thought at the departmental level, and no longer national. In particular, it asks to be authorized to kill the wolf during the beating of big game.

"Today, we can not continue with such a population of wolves present in the department, it is too much pressure for our breeders and wildlife," said Michel Sanjuan, the vice-president of the Federation quoted by our colleagues.
