If the fight against climate change is to be won, it must not be waged rigorously and against large parts of the population. Otherwise, he will fail and instead reinforce the political polarization on the subject of the energy transition, which is being pushed by the AfD, for example.

This attitude in the implementation of climate policy goals is not only represented by the SPD chancellor in marathon meetings of the traffic light coalition, when he steps on the brakes against the Greens. Leading Green politicians themselves and the "Fridays for Future" movement they support also feel that it is counterproductive to "turn people against each other in everyday life".

Concern about loss of sympathy

Already at the beginning of the first sticking actions of the "Last Generation", the Greens distanced themselves – not so much with regard to criminally relevant acts, but out of concern for a loss of sympathy for their party and its ecological concerns. Just as the CDU chairman Friedrich Merz is brought close to right-wing radicals by political opponents, many citizens associate road blockades with the term green.

It is only logical to distance oneself even more sharply and decisively from the radical climate activists after the recent glue and spray happenings. Their announced "spring rebellion" could therefore also affect the Greens in the coming days.
