The missile that North Korea launched on the East Sea that day (13 March) was not a liquid-fuel-based intercontinental ballistic missile or ICBM as before, but a new solid-fuel ICBM. General Secretary Kim Jong-un once again watched the test launch of his first solid-fuel ICBM with his daughter Ju-ae.

In the middle of the
reservoir, a large mobile missile launcher was placed.

[2nd Squadron test firing approved. Fire! Three, two, one fire!]

Missiles rise from vertical launchers and soar with white smoke.

After bouncing off the launcher without ignition, a large amount of white smoke is emitted in the shape of a skirt.

It is a typical cold launch method for solid-fuel missiles.

North Korea announced earlier in the day that the missile it test-fired near the Taedong River in Pyongyang was a new solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile, the Hwasong-18 type.

It was a test firing of an ICBM that was shown at a military parade in February.

This is the first test launch of a solid-fuel ICBM.

North Korea said the test launches went as planned, and released separate photos of the first, second and third stages of propellants taken from the missiles.

North Korea said the first-stage propellant flew at a normal angle and landed in the sea off South Hamgyong Province, while the second- and third-stage propellants flew at a higher angle and flew in a high-angle launch method.

Also present at the launch were their daughter Joo-ae, his wife, Ri Sul-ju, and his sister, Kim Ji-won.

In addition, a video of General Secretary Kim Jong-un leading the scene in front of a camouflaged Hwasong-2 in what appears to be a hangar or tunnel was shown.

General Secretary Kim Jong-un said the development of the Hwaseong-1 would dramatically advance the effectiveness of a nuclear counter-strike posture and that an offensive response would leave the enemy with extreme anxiety and fear.
