LecturesB, contributor to the 20 Minutes Books reading group, recommends "Nuits Vertigo" by Arnaud Laborey, published on April 3, 2023 by Éditions Beta publisher.

His favorite quote:

All this is not new, the ground was already burning fifty years ago. Remember. Beginning two thousand: everyone knew that everything had to stop immediately.

Why this book?

  • Because before talking about the author's pen, we must recognize the enormous graphic work of the novel, a beautiful cover and visible under a different gaze thanks to 3D glasses. Inside, 26 extraordinary graphic illustrations at the beginning of the chapter.
  • Because true to itself, the publishing house Beta publisher often finds nuggets to discover, here is one more.
  • Because this haunting thriller plunges us into a futuristic world where the Earth and humanity are on the run to their doom. Heat, nothing grows, viruses, spacemen, conspiracies, ancient legends... A thriller that has the features of an anticipatory novel.
  • Because Arnaud Laborey, reread and sublimated by Hillel Schlegel, describes and tells a gripping story although the narrator tells in the first person. Here we are in total immersion with the main character.

The essentials in 2 minutes

The plot. At the heart of a planet of the future bruised by global warming and cataclysms. We follow the story of a narrator who is engulfed in his abysmal nightmares. An amazing and immersive experience, for the character but also the reader...

The characters. The narrator, Diane, her son and daughter. Several characters are encountered during the story.

Places. Paris.

The time. The story begins in November in the not-so-distant future.

The author. Arnaud Laborey works in Paris in the cultural press. He is advertising director of Technikart magazine. He is the author of a collection of texts "Au balcon des insomnies" published in 2016 by Denis Labouche and this novel "Nuits vertigo" by Beta publisher.

This book was read in full immersion. The author brilliantly succeeds in plunging the reader into the dreams and insomnia of his narrator. I can't say more, but I recommend.
