New strikes and protests in France against pension reform

Trade unions in France have once again called for strikes and marches today against President Emmanuel Macron's reform of the pension system.

Authorities expect between 400,600 and 12,11 people to take part on the 500th day of nationwide protests, according to dpa news agency. The protests are directed against the gradual increase in the retirement age from 62 to 64. The center-right government wants to fill a looming gap in the pension fund through the amendment. The dispute intensified because the government pushed the text through the National Assembly without a vote. Macron wants the amendment to take effect by the end of the year.
