Two men and two women were found guilty of counterfeit currency trafficking on Friday by the criminal court of Annecy (Haute-Savoie). The case began in the Gard in September 2020, with the discovery of a letter containing 25 counterfeit notes of 100 euros, reports Midi Libre.

Other similar folds were intercepted afterwards and the investigation made it possible to identify the two couples judged on Friday. The main defendant, who officially lived at the RSA, led a life of luxury. He owned a Porsche Cayenne and regularly rented luxury cars with his girlfriend.

The four defendants sentenced

This lifestyle was made possible by a traffic in counterfeit notes from Naples (Italy). According to the Central Office for the Suppression of Counterfeit Trafficking, for 12.50 euros, the defendant could hope to obtain 100 euros in counterfeit notes and resell them in France for a sum between 22 and 50 euros.

He was sentenced to five years in prison and fined 10,000 euros and his Porsche was seized. His girlfriend is sentenced to three years in prison under electronic bracelet, with eighteen months suspended. The second man was sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of 10,000 euros, and his girlfriend to two years in prison, one of which was suspended.
