An investigation has been opened for attempted homicide after the assault Tuesday night of a 17-year-old in Meaux (Seine-et-Marne) by a group of about twenty people armed with hammers, bats or baseball bats, announced Wednesday the prosecutor's office. The facts took place around 23 p.m. near the shopping center of La Verrière, said this source. An investigation for attempted intentional homicide and aggravated intentional violence was opened and entrusted to the judicial police of Meaux.

"The victim, currently hospitalized, including because of cranial hematomas, and whose vital prognosis would no longer be engaged, had been beaten by his attackers," said the prosecutor of Meaux, Jean-Baptiste Bladier.

During the evening, another young man aged 17 presented himself at the hospital of Meaux for "a significant wound to the hand caused by a knife," says the prosecutor. He explained that he "was in the company of the main victim and was also attacked by the aggressors and a victim of violence". He attributed the attack "to a possible rivalry between young people from neighboring neighborhoods," according to the prosecutor's office, which said the victims did not name the perpetrators of the violence.
