Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan's former chief of staff was killed after a shooting with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) while he was wanted for a nomination.

The Associated Press reported on Jan. 4 that Roy McGrath, former chief of staff to former Gov. Hogan, was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound during a skirmish with the FBI at a commercial facility outside Knoxville, Tennessee, but died.

It is not known whether McGrath was killed by a self-shot shot or shot by the FBI.

Former Governor Hogan said in a statement, "Yumi and I are devastated by this tragic situation" and "pray for the McGrath family."

Mrs. Yumi Hogan, wife of former Governor Hogan, is Korean-American.

McGrath was accused of falsely reporting to the board that he had permission from former Governor Hogan in 2021 while serving as Maryland's Environment Commissioner and fraudulently receiving more than $1,23 in severance pay, equivalent to one year's salary.

The matter became public, and he resigned in 2020, 11 weeks after becoming chief of staff to former Gov. Hogan.

McGrath disappeared last month without appearing for trial and was wanted.
