UAE, Greece discuss friendship, strategic partnership

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met in Athens with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, where they discussed the friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries.

During the meeting, His Highness conveyed the greetings of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and his wishes for prosperity and prosperity to the friendly Hellenic Republic, stressing the depth of the ties of friendship between the two countries.

For his part, the Greek Prime Minister welcomed H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the accompanying delegation and conveyed his greetings to President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and his wishes for continued prosperity and excellence to the UAE, stressing that the UAE and the Hellenic Republic are linked by solid and distinguished historical relations.

During the meeting, they discussed the outcomes of the official visit of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Greece last August and its role in pushing the level of partnership between the two countries to a wider horizon of growth and development.

Sheikh Abdullah praised the visit and its fruitful results, which contributed significantly to strengthening relations between the two friendly countries and created promising opportunities for the development of joint cooperation in many vital fields.

The two sides also discussed the importance of enhancing cooperation at the economic and trade levels, as the total trade exchange between the two countries reached about 561 million US dollars in 2021, with a growth rate of about 68% compared to 2020.

They also discussed the frameworks of joint cooperation in the aviation sector and the importance of working continuously to increase direct flights between the two countries, which have achieved good levels in the past period.

Sheikh Abdullah and Kyriakos Mitsotakis discussed a number of issues of common interest related to the strategic partnership between the two countries, working within the framework of international organizations, and discussed the situation in the region and developments at the regional and international levels.

Sheikh Abdullah stressed that the UAE and Greece are linked by a developed and growing strategic partnership based on solid foundations of friendship and mutual respect.

His Highness added that the bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries have witnessed decades of development and prosperity in various fields, stressing that the UAE and Greece are keen to invest all available opportunities to expand and develop their partnership in a way that achieves their mutual interests and benefits their peoples and also contributes to enhancing security and stability in the region.

His Highness praised the prominent and constructive role played by the friendly Republic of Greece by contributing to strengthening relations between the UAE and the European Union.

Sheikh Abdullah and Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias also discussed the friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries.

During the meeting, which was held within the framework of His Highness' working visit to Greece, the two sides reviewed various aspects of bilateral cooperation and ways to enhance it in several fields, including economic, trade, investment, development, renewable energy and food security.

His Highness and the Greek Foreign Minister affirmed the depth and consolidation of bilateral relations between the two countries, which began in 1975 and have witnessed continuous development for decades and were strengthened with the declaration of the strategic partnership between the two countries in 2020. The two sides also reviewed a number of files of common interest, including international efforts to combat climate change and the UAE's preparations to host the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) this year.

Sheikh Abdullah and the Greek Foreign Minister discussed the situation in the region and efforts to achieve security and stability, and exchanged views on regional and global developments.

Sheikh Abdullah praised the tangible development achievements of the two countries in various sectors as a result of their long-standing strategic partnership.

For his part, Nikos Dendias welcomed H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the accompanying delegation, stressing the importance of this visit, which constitutes a strong impetus to the cooperation relations between the two friendly countries in various fields within the framework of their strategic partnership.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, had earlier arrived in Greece on a working visit, where an official reception ceremony was held for His Highness upon his arrival at the airport, and a group of honor guards lined up to greet His Highness, in the presence of a number of senior officials from both countries.
