Triumph of no to electric scooters for rent in Paris. In the consultative referendum, 89% of voters said they were against self-service electric scooters. Le Parisien reports that only 1.3 million Parisians who had registered before March 3 could cast their votes in the 21 polling stations opened for the occasion, but in the end only 103,084 of them voted.

As this is a consultative referendum, the decision now rests with the Paris administration, but Mayor Anne Hidalgo had promised that she would respect the result of the consultation, while adding that she hoped that Parisians would vote against the scooters.

At this point, as 'Le Monde' points out, the capital could French become (if Hidalgo fulfills his promise to honor the result of the consultation) the only one in Europe to outlaw electric scooters. The stop should take effect in September.
