North Korea has refuted the Unification Ministry's public publication of the North Korean Human Rights Report as "slander and fabrication."

In a commentary titled "The Evil Tale of Special Confrontation Mania That Brings Nemesis," the foreign propaganda media Uri Nation denounced President Yun Seok-yeol's remarks before the publication of the North Korean Human Rights Report on 1 March, saying, "The reality of the North Korean people's gross human rights abuses must be fully exposed to the international community."

The media said, "Weightlifting has been talking about the consistent 'North Korean Human Rights Report' through slander and fabrication, and on the occasion of this, they have blown their tongues such as 'the reality of North Korean human rights should be widely publicized and taught,' and 'the North Korean Human Rights Act should be implemented in practice.'"

He continued, "Why is such a person who does not know the 'person' of human rights using a flag and staking us and making accusations against us?" and asserted, "It is the ugly spirit of weightlifting to maximize the 'human rights' disturbance and strengthen international pressure coordination against us today, when the anti-republic confrontation by force is facing the fate of general bankruptcy."

Another propaganda outlet echoed that the purpose of the North Korean Human Rights Report was to "somehow undermine the status of our Republic as a global nuclear power."

On 28 March, the Ministry of Unification released for the first time the 30-page "500 Report on Human Rights in North Korea," which was prepared based on the testimonies of more than 405 North Korean defectors.

The report covered the North Korean regime's human rights abuses, including public executions of juveniles and pregnant women.

The government has published an annual report on North Korean human rights since 2023, the year after the enactment of the North Korean Human Rights Act, but it has kept it private in view of concerns about disclosure of North Korean defectors' personal information and North Korea's opposition.
