Twice as many renewables by 2030. This is the objective on which the States of the European Union and MEPs have just agreed on Thursday. A target of 42.5% renewables in European energy consumption by 2030, almost doubling the current level of 22%.

The text, which provides for accelerated procedures for infrastructure, considers biomass (wood for energy production) to be "green", says Markus Pieper (EPP, right). This practice denounced by environmental NGOs is however "better supervised", says Pascal Canfin (Renew, liberals), who also welcomes the "recognition of the specific role of nuclear power, neither green nor fossil" to produce carbon-free hydrogen, a subject deeply dividing the Twenty-Seven.
